Drumroll Please

After a two year hiatus from blogging I'm re-inspired and determined to update more frequently (the addition of a small person in our lives has provided the inspiration...more on that later). The kitchen has been completed long enough that we no longer feel guilty about eating out :)
I'm pleased to announce that we placed 2nd in Sunset Magazine's "I Love My Remodel" kitchen contest in 2010. Some of my favorite details are the task lighting, huge and deep farmhouse sink, glass tile backsplash, concrete and recycled glass countertops, and beautiful cabinetry. Take a look at our completed digs.

Kitchen Remodel

Mid-summer 2008 Josh and I bought and moved into a great house. There's a fenced backyard and room to grow. BUT, it's a little 70's and needed some updating. Shortly after moving in we ripped out the kitchen and have been ever so slowly rebuilding our kitchen since then. You know what that means, lots of eating out. I never thought I would have such a craving for home cooking. First was the demo (October)...

We consulted an architecht and built this header ourselves. (November)




The rebuilding began (December)






Primer, 10 pre-painted squares, 6 paint samples, and two paint colors on the wall later... the cabinet boxes arrived. The cabinets were designed and created courtesy of Josh's brother in law, Ben J. Dykstra, furniture maker. (January)

Oh no, the big 30

This year welcomed both Josh and I into our 30's. We were blessed on both occasions to celebrate with family. Josh's 30th also coincided with his ccomplishment of a Masters in Marine Fisheries. He is finally gainfully employed with Washington Fish and Wildlife as a shellfish biologist!
